All about Sung Hung Pagoda, the oldest pagoda on Phu Quoc island

I. Basic information about Sung Hung Pagoda

Sung Hung Pagoda or Sung Hung Co Tu is located on Tran Hung Dao street (opposite to the Telecommunications center, near Dinh Cau Phu Quoc night market. This is the oldest temple in Phu Quoc today.

II. How to get to Sung Hung Pagoda? 

Located about 3.5km from Duong Dong town center, it takes about 15 minutes to transport. You can come here by motorbike, car or taxi on Nguyen Trung Truc Street and you can reach Sung Hung Co Tu easily.

The temple is large, including architectural works, ancestral churches, and the main hall, etc. The Buddhist statues have been built with yin-yang tile roofs and brick walls since 1924. Sung Hung ancient pagoda was built according to the folk style “before the temple, after the temple”. Right in the front are a large yard and garden for monks and nuns with the presence of many kinds of ornamental plants and statues embossed in the familiar architectural style of Buddhism.

In the temple yard is Nam Hai Quan Am statue, followed by the flagpole. On the left of the background and the old temple, there is a temple for Chua Xu Nuong Nuong and a temple for the National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc on the right.

On both sides of the main sanctuary are the worshiping of the Big Ten Kings and the Five King Plains, and there are other statues on the main altar. Behind the main hall are the Hau To and Hau bureaucracy. On the side of the temple, there is a way to visit Amitabha Buddha Station. Behind is the Radio Thich Ca Nirvana since 1960 with temples and ancient trees shimmering shady.

With unique architecture, Sung Hung Pagoda has long been associated with Duong Dong temple. Dinh Thuy Thuy Long, Thanh Mau, and Dinh Cau have become a continuous spiritual culture cluster on the Pearl Island.

Built in the early 20th century, Sung Hung Pagoda is located at the foot of the mountain facing the North. The architecture is placed in a harmonious overview, ascending along the ridge, with many ancient green trees. Behind the three-door gate is a very pedestal statue of the Buddha Bodhisattva Bodhisattva in the middle of the temple yard.

In the main hall is the altar of the Buddha decorated with a lively dragon scene. Amitabha sits in the middle, and the right-handed positions are for Quan The Am and Dai The Chi. Sung Hung Pagoda will give you time to ease your soul and relax after the bustling life. Come and enjoy it.
