1. Currency in Luang Prabang

Kip. In case you run out of Kip, people there can accept either Thai baht or USD.

2. Climate in Luang Prabang

The wet season in Luang Prabang runs from May to September, and temperatures can be uncomfortably hot and oppressive for most travelers. The dry season runs from early November to mid March. Generally, Luang Prabang experiences warm, humid days all year round, but taking a light jacket during the rainy months is a wise move.

3. Language in Luang Prabang 

Lao is the official language, however most people you come across will have essential English skills which you’ll find accommodating and enjoyable talking to the wonderfully welcoming Lao people.

4. Getting around Luang Prabang 

a. Phousi mountain

Located in the heart of the old town peninsula rising 100 meters above sea level, Phousi Mountain is the highest peak in Luang Prabang. You can ascend this beautiful mountain with 355 steps and reach the spectacular views shared by the Mekong River and the other side, the Nam Khan River.

b. Royal temple museum 

Built in 1904 and taken over by the government in 1975. Entrance fee is 30.000 Kip which is around 4$ per person and photography is not allowed inside. Absolutely beautiful structure accompanied with engaging historical pieces.

c. Old quarter Luang Prabang

If you follow the main street in Luang Prabang you can’t go wrong. You will find anything you need: cafes, restaurants, convenience stores, book stores, money changers, street food, tour agencies… and of course nightlife.

d. Kuang Si waterfalls

Your stay in Luang Prabang wouldn’t be complete without paying a visit to its magnificent Kuang Si Waterfalls, where you can enjoy the sounds of bubbling brooks as nature envelopes you. The 3 tier waterfall lead into a 50-meter drop of shallow pools, before flowing downstream. Surrounded by lush tropical jungle, the pools have cascades of up to 5 meters high and make great swimming holes. There are trails leading to the top of Kuang Si Falls, where you can take a boat ride to the source of the Kuang Si Falls.

You can either rent a scooter or take a Tuk-tuk or go on a day-trip organized by any travel company. Whatever you decide, allocate a full day.

5. Eating and drink in Luang Prabang

You can check out the night market around 5pm till 10pm every night of the week to try street food in Luang Prabang. The morning market is also very popular both among locals and tourists. You’ll also find many wonderful places of authentic food.
