Celebrate Thai New Year with the Songkran Water Festival

Bangkok, Thailand – Thai New Year or Songkran is one of the most important and beloved festivals in Thailand. This year, the Songkran Water Festival will be celebrated from April 13 to 15, with people from all over the country and around the world expected to join the festivities.

Songkran marks the beginning of the traditional Thai solar calendar and is a time of renewal and rebirth. It is celebrated by sprinkling water on Buddha images and on the hands of monks as a sign of respect and to seek blessings for the new year. The festival has evolved into a massive water fight, with people using water guns, hoses, and buckets to splash water on each other as a way of cleansing and refreshing the spirit.

In Bangkok, the celebration will take place across the city, with major areas such as Khao San Road, Silom Road, and Siam Square transformed into water-splashing zones. In addition to the water fights, there will be street food, music, and dance performances throughout the city.

Apart from Bangkok, other popular destinations for Songkran celebrations include Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya. Chiang Mai, in particular, is known for its elaborate parades, traditional ceremonies, and cultural performances.

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Thai government has assured the public that the Songkran Water Festival will proceed with safety measures in place. This includes limiting the number of participants and enforcing social distancing guidelines.

The Songkran Water Festival is a must-see event for those looking to experience Thai culture and celebrate the start of a new year. With its colorful traditions and exuberant celebrations, it is no wonder why Songkran is one of the most anticipated events in Thailand.

Vientiane, Laos – Lao Airlines has announced the resumption of its non-stop flight service between Vientiane and Da Nang, according to a recent news report. The flag carrier operated its first flight in over three years on Thursday, with 150 passengers on board. The direct air route had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Starting this week, Lao Airlines will operate two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays between the two cities. The resumption of the direct route is expected to meet the increasing demand of visitors in the region following the lifting of travel restrictions.

Noudeng Chanthaphasouk, the commercial director of Lao Airlines, said in a statement, “The direct route between Vientiane and Da Nang was favored by a large number of tourists before the Covid-19 outbreak. We are delighted to restart this service and contribute to the recovery of tourism in the region.”

Lao Airlines had already resumed its direct flight services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City after both countries reopened tourism.

The resumption of Lao Airlines’ direct flight service is expected to further strengthen the tourism ties between Laos and Vietnam, providing more convenience for travelers between the two countries.
