What special features of Southeast Asia in June

If you fancy a luxury holiday away from the busy resorts of mainland Europe, then head to Southeast Asia in summer and you’ll enjoy a great climate and plenty of sunshine. The Southeast Asia weather in June is warm and pleasant, especially around popular resorts in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines. Expect to catch some tropical showers, though.

1. The weather of Southeast Asia in June

  •  Vietnam
June is still a good month to travel in Vietnam despite it being a slightly mixed bag in terms of weather. The centre of Vietnam has now hit peak temperatures and remains dry and bright. The south is now in the midst of the wet season with daily downpours to be expected, usually in the afternoon, whilst the north is well into summer mode with high temperatures and rain being the norm. Visitor numbers are relatively low and the central beaches still promise a great deal of sunshine. Trekking is off the cards for most, with more rain spreading through the northern mountains & central highlands.
  • Cambodia
By June rain can be expected throughout Cambodia. Temperatures remain high (avg temp: 28°C), and humidity can reach 70% during the day. However, the short, heavy showers help break the humidity making life a little more comfortable.
  • The Philippines

By June, the wet season is well underway throughout most of the Philippines, with heavy rainfall expected across the   majority of the country. The southern islands of Bohol, Cebu, and Siargao whilst not completely dry, experience less rain   than the northern and central regions. On a more positive note, the rains bring with them some attractive changes to the landscape: by now the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol no longer have their distinctive brown colouration but will have turned a shade of green and the rice terraces of Banaue are at their greenest.

  • Laos                                                                                                                                                                                     The wet season is in full swing throughout Laos in June, although showers tend to be short and intense, lasting for a few hours rather than all-day downpours. Temperatures hover around the mid to high 20’s.
  • Thailand

Whilst far from guaranteed, there is a reasonable chance of rain throughout much of Thailand in June. Temperatures remain high (avg temp: 29-31°C) and, at least initially, the rain is likely to come in the form of short downpours, with periods of good weather expected throughout much of the day.

Indonesia
Favourable diving conditions can be enjoyed across the Indonesian islands in June: expect clear, warm waters and an abundance of marine life, especially in the Komodo National Park and around the Gili Islands.

Malaysia
In June, the east coast of peninsula Malaysia continues to enjoy plenty of sunny dry days, along with perfect sea conditions for snorkelling and diving. The west coast islands will be experiencing hot and humid conditions, along with heavy downpours but these are usually short-lived and can bring welcome relief to the humidity.

Laos Drops Testing For Vaccinated Tourists, Announces Full Reopening

Laos has announced a full reopening to tourism today that allows vaccinated arrivals to enter the country without any testing requirements.

Government Spokesperson and Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Madame Thippakone Chanthavongsa, spoke during an announcement broadcast live across social media.

BEST SELLING LAOS TOUR & HOLIDAY PACKAGES

She said that as the number of Covid-19 cases had significantly decreased, and in order to ensure economic recovery, the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and the government of Laos had coordinated with a number of sectors to determine new entry measures in line with the global situation.

After canvassing public opinion and consulting with experts, the Taskforce has set out the following measures for entry to Laos, effective from 9 May onward:

All international checkpoints will be open for entry and exit by Lao citizens, foreign residents, tourists, and other types of visitors.

Citizens of countries that have bilateral or unilateral visa waiver agreements with Laos may now enter Laos without the need for a visa.

Citizens of countries that do not have a visa waiver agreement with Laos may now apply for a visa at a Lao embassy or consulate abroad or via the e-Visa online system. Visa on arrivals will also be reinstated at certain international checkpoints.

Fully vaccinated foreigners or Lao citizens carrying a vaccination certificate may enter Laos without any screening or testing for Covid-19 when arriving by land, air, or water.

Non-vaccinated citizens of Laos, foreign citizens, or residents aged 12 years and over must take a Rapid Antigen Test (ATK) not more than 48 hours prior to departure and present the results upon arrival.

Foreign arrivals in Laos that become infected with Covid-19 must bear responsibility for any and all medical costs involved in treatment.

Private vehicles may now enter and exit the territory of Laos via checkpoints as prior to the pandemic. Guidelines regarding this measure will be drafted and publicized by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Madame Thippakone said that ministries and tourism departments, as well as tourism businesses, must now be fully prepared to welcome foreign tourists.

Laos requirements

At the same time, she announced the reopening of entertainment venues and karaoke bars, however, such venues must ensure they fully comply with Covid-19 prevention measures.

Malaysia to further ease Covid-19 rules from May 1

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia will remove Covid-19 testing for all inbound travellers who are fully vaccinated or under the age of 12, and make it optional to wear masks outdoors and check in before entering premises, as it further eases pandemic measures from next month.

For Hari Raya Puasa, visiting and open houses will be allowed, with no cap on the number of visitors to a household. There was a limit of 15 people at any one time during last year’s celebrations.

The further easing of measures announced on Wednesday (April 27) follows a decline in hospitalisation rates and demand for intensive care beds, said the Health Ministry.

“This freedom does not mean we have won the war against Covid-19. We must ensure the festivities do not end in disaster. Even if we are asymptomatic, we may be carriers of the Covid-19 virus,” Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin told a news conference which was aired live on social media.

He advised people to self-test for Covid-19 before heading out for Hari Raya festivities to prevent the spread of the virus.

From May 1, masks must continue to be worn indoors, including on public transport, but will be optional when outdoors.

All fully vaccinated travellers, children aged 12 and below regardless of their vaccination status, and travellers with a history of recovery from Covid-19 within six to 60 days of departure, will no longer be required to take a pre-departure polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. They will also not be required to take another test within 24 hours of arrival in Malaysia.

Currently, fully vaccinated travellers must take a test 48 hours before departure, and again upon arrival. However, land travellers from Singapore who are fully vaccinated or aged 12 and below are permitted to enter Malaysia without quarantine or testing.

Non-vaccinated travellers are required to take a test – either an RT-PCR test or an antigen rapid test (RTK-Ag) conducted by a medical professional – within two days before departure for Malaysia, take a supervised RTK test within 24 hours of arrival, undergo a five-day quarantine, and take an RT-PCR on day 4 or a professional RTK test on day 5.

Travel insurance will no longer be mandatory for travellers entering the country.

Previously, unvaccinated individuals could not dine out or enter shopping malls, but from May 1, they will be allowed to do so.

Premises will no longer require the public to check in using the MySejahtera app, which is an app similar to Singapore’s TraceTogether, and its use will be optional.

Nightclub activities will also be allowed to resume from May 15, after having been barred since the first movement control order in 2020.

Malaysia recorded 3,361 cases and 13 deaths on Tuesday.

Of the adult population, 68.1 per cent have received their Covid-19 booster shot, while 97.6 per cent have completed two doses.

Mr Khairy said the vaccination rate for children remains low. Just over 21 per cent are fully vaccinated, while over 42 per cent have received at least one dose.
